There are always debates about what works best between hardware (MPCs, MVs & groove boxes) or software (Logic, Reasons, FL Studio etc.). The Beatmonstas crew has used and still uses both. But we are interested in what you use and why you prefer your tools of choice. be sure to list your gear. feel free to post a track and tell us if it's born of software or hardware.
Hardware list:
Akai MPC 2000XL
Roland Fantom S
Stanton CD turntable
Rane Mixer
Software list:
Logic Studio 8
Garage Band
I prefer to use all of them but I'm starting to use software more nowadays. Logic 8 hands down is the future. I got all my samplers and synths pack into this baby to do damage. Don't need to hook up cables and midi stuff. Everything is in one place. The best part is being able to record vocals right into logic then mix the audio. After that, I give to the mastering engineer and its done and ready for the market place.
Update: I just got my hands on a new Preamp called the Art Digital MPA gold. I replaced the vacuum tubes in it with some Tung Sol 12ax7. This Preamp is the shit for the price. I payed a little over 300 for it. I also got the M audio Sputnik mic for vocals. This was a much needed upgrade from the mics I was using before. Aside from that, I still use my Roland Fantom S for production and my tried and true MPC 2000XL. I've been putting Logic in its paces for making beats aswell.
